So, I am a student nurse and had to replace the Timex Iron Man watch I busted about a year after purchase (with only about 9 months worth of actual wear).I wash my hands constantly, so I needed something water-resistant, at the least. And since I'm always knocking my hands (and often wrists) on side rails, I needed something on the rugged side. And since I am, as I mentioned before, a student nurse, I needed something reasonably priced.
After searching Amazon and researching the various brands and watches, I settled on this one--designed for surfers.I love the unique digits and the seemingly solid construction.
The picture, however, is a little deceptive--it makes the display seem much brighter than it really is.The EL light, though, makes it much easier to read in less than idea conditions. This makes it not much of a big deal, something I can totally live with.
The one and only thing that don't like about the watch is the difficulty in setting the time.Scratch that. The apparent difficulty in setting the time.See, the instructions that come with the watch make absolutely no sense at all.Really.I like to think of myself as a fairly intelligent person; I have made it through to the final semester of nursing school, I have learned to decipher a number of doctors' handwriting, translate medical jargon, I can even drive a stick-shift.I was unable, despite all efforts, follow the directions as written by Freestyle accompanying my new watch.Nor was my brother, a consummate technology geek, able to do so.
It was incredibly frustrating and I contemplated sending it back for a refund. But first I emailed Freestyle as well as the seller as to whether clearer instructions existed. The seller of course directed me to the manufacturer Freestyle.Freestyle, however, was gracious and offered the following:
"Try to use the following for setting.
Press/hold with the upper left button until LIGHT OFF on the display.
Use lower left to select hour, min, date........
Use upper/lower buttons for adjust hour, min, date......
Press upper left to exit setting."
Victory!I now have a sexy, lightweight watch that displays the correct time. Now we will just have to see how well it holds up in a hospital.

About Freestyle With the extremist in mind, FreeStyle has created an extensive collection of innovative performance watches that will go with you to the edge and back--whether you're surfing, skiing, biking, or hiking. Established in 1981, Freestyle Watches was the brainchild of a couple of Surfers whose mission was to create a watch line that could withstand the abusive conditions of their beach lifestyle. Their experience told them very few watches on the market could stand up to the daily abuse of salt water and sand. The result was The Shark Freestyle watch, a lightweight, low profile, and extremely durable timepiece that was immediately demanded by athletes all over the world.
